New opportunities for
Lotterywest funding
The Office of Multicultural Interests has developed new guidelines and a revised application form for the Community Grants Program (CGP).
OMI will continue funding support for community empowering projects and cross cultural events. From the 1 January 2010 ethnic community groups should apply to Lotterywest through the Community Events and Celebrations Program for National Day or ‘one-off’ community celebrations.
Applications for Lotterywest funding must be submitted at least four months before your event. Please contact Lotterywest on telephone 9340 5270 to discuss your proposal before you submit an application. Lotterywest grant application information can be obtained from the Lotterywest website at http://www.lotterywest.wa.gov.au.
Community Grants Program

The Office of Multicultural Interests (OMI) vision is an inclusive and cohesive society drawing on the cultural and linguistic diversity of its people to enhance the social, economic and development of the State.

The Community Grants Program (CGP) objectives support the OMI strategic plan by encouraging participation, equity and promotion of all Western Australians in projects and events that remove barriers and enhance cross cultural engagement.

Community Grants Program Objectives

Participation
Build on OMI’s Strategic directions and priority areas by increasing the capacity of culturally and linguistically diverse (CaLD) communities in areas of settlement support for new arrivals, housing, employment, language, education, anti racism, training, health, transport, safety and policing and aged care.

Equity
Build on and encourage projects and programs to access funding which express and celebrate cultural diversity and encourage interaction between CaLD communities and the wider community.

Promotion
Build on and promote the benefits of cultural diversity and the contribution of individuals and communities from CaLD backgrounds to the Western Australian community.

Who can Apply

  • not for-profit, incorporated community based organisations and groups;
  • based in Western Australia; and
  • seeking funding for a project to be undertaken exclusively in Western Australia.

Partnerships between community organisations are encouraged, if an organisation or group is not incorporated and wishes to apply for a grant, the application must be made by a incorporated “Lead Organisation” acting on their behalf.

Incorporated organisations can submit one application, per round and may also act for one unincorporated community group.

Who can not Apply

  • Local government and statutory authorities, Individuals, commercial enterprises and associations and government agencies.
  • The exception to this is where local government authorities in remote regional communities wish to act on behalf of a local unincorporated organisation or group and agree to be the “Lead Organisation” and be responsible for the financial or reporting arrangements.

Grant Categories

  1. Community Empowering Projects (up to $15,000)
  2. Cross Cultural Festivals Events and Celebrations (up to $5,000)

Examples of applications that have received funding include: cross-cultural festivals, concerts and plays, seminars, workshops, forums, exhibitions and conferences, community education projects such as training programs, information sessions interfaith cultural exchanges, publications with a multicultural focus, including books, manuals, information kits and projects targeting racism and discrimination in all its forms.

Funds are NOT available for fund raising or projects expected to realise a profit, interstate or overseas travel, (including airfares) the purchase of land and buildings, capital equipment(computers, cars) or works projects.

Closing Dates

4pm Thursday 11 November 2010

Projects should commence at least three months after the closing date of that funding round to allow us time to assess your application, notify you of the result and process your grant payment.

Assessment Process

A Community Grants Assessment Panel, appointed by the Executive Director OMI, will assess the applications. The Panel will forward its recommendations through the Director General, Department of Local Government to the Minister for Multicultural Interests and Citizenship, either for approval, for approval subject to conditions, rejection or change at the Minister’s discretion.
