A message from the Minister for Citizenship and Multicultural Interests
Migrants from all walks of life are moving to this State in increasing numbers and looking to call it home.
They are drawn here by our strong sense of family, our cultural diversity, our excellent schools and the variety of employment opportunities our strong economy provides.
Western Australia is one of the country’s most culturally diverse States, with almost one-third of the population born overseas.
Our State is home to people from more than 200 different countries. More than 270 languages are spoken in WA, and more than 100 religious faiths are identified with or practised.
As Minister for Citizenship and Multicultural Interests I look forward to working with the many multicultural groups in our community to help uphold the State’s aims to promote multiculturalism and improve services to Western Australians from diverse cultural, linguistic and religious backgrounds.
Areas I am particularly interested in looking into more closely include English language teaching to new migrants and the teaching of other languages.
The Western Australian Government proudly acknowledges and celebrates our cultural diversity as one of our State’s great strengths.
Hon Dr Mike Nahan BEC MS PhD MLA
