Western Australian Community Profiles - 2001 Census
The first series of 14 community profiles, released in 2004 were based on socio-economic and ethnicity related demographic data from the 2001 Census. The profiles were designed to assist service providers in delivering services to their diverse client base. The first series covered the following countries of birth: Malaysia, Vietnam, Indonesia, China, India, Italy, Poland, Germany, Netherlands, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Afghanistan, Iraq and communities from the Horn of Africa.

OMI has been pleased with the considerable demand and positive feed back from these profiles. The value of the information was evident and has prompted the production of additional profiles covering other ethnic groups in our community.

The new profiles, which have also been produced in conjunction with the Australian Bureau of Statistics, cover the socio-economic and demographic characteristics of 12 selected established and new and emerging communities represented in Western Australia. They are Burma (Myanmar), Central and South America, Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Greece, Iran, Philippines, Portugal, Romania, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Turkey and Ukraine.

The community profiles, with a strong emphasis on socio-economic factors, such as labour force participation, occupation, income, housing tenure and family, will continue to increase understanding of our cultural diversity and provide a key source of information for those providing and planning services to Western Australia's culturally diverse community.
