Page introduction (keep short).
Refugee Week is Australia's peak annual activity to raise awareness of refugees, the challenges they face, and to celebrate and acknowledge the positive contributions they make to our society.
This year Refugee Week will be held from Sunday 15 June to Saturday 21 June 2025, to coincide with the United Nation’s World Refugee Day on 20 June with the theme of Finding Freedom: Diversity in Community.
What does it mean to be free? For many, it means a life without the fear of war or persecution, to have your basic human rights upheld, to live in safety and with equality.
In Australia and globally, settling into a new life after experiencing the hardship and dangers of the refugee’s journey is a chance to live, love and to dream again.
This Refugee Week, we celebrate the inclusive communities across Australia that welcome those seeking refuge and offer safety, belonging and connection.
Diverse communities bring people together and show us that together we are stronger, more united and better able to face challenges.
Refugee Week also marks the 50th anniversary of Vietnamese refugee settlement in Australia.
