Voice referendum

Conversations about the referendum and proposed Voice to Parliament have the potential to be harmful for First Nations peoples. The human rights commission has released an educational resource kit for the 2023 referendum, these resources seek to minimise harm by encouraging cultural humility and focusing the conversation on human rights principles. This is particularly important when discussing issues that disproportionately affect certain individuals and communities, such as the referendum for an Indigenous Voice to Parliament.

Human rights principles that relate to Indigenous peoples (or Indigenous rights) set out minimum standards to ensure that Indigenous peoples can equally enjoy human rights alongside everyone else.
