WA Interpreter and Translator Booster Program

A program to support eligible interpreters and translators with National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters (NAATI) certification and re-certification at no cost.

 

Expressions of Interest are now open for the WA Interpreter and Translator Booster Program.

Developed by the Office of Multicultural Interests (OMI), in partnership with the National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters (NAATI), this program provides eligible interpreters and translators in Western Australia the opportunity to undertake NAATI certification testing or re-certification at no cost.

The initiative supports language practitioners to achieve and maintain professional certification, helping ensure Western Australians have equitable access to information and services.

Support is available for the following NAATI credentials:

  • Recognised Practising Interpreter (RPI)
  • Recognised Practising Translator (RPT)
  • Certified Provisional Interpreter (CPI)
  • Certified Interpreter (CI)
  • Certified Translator (CT)

Applicant requirements

Applicants must:

  • have current or previous professional experience working as an interpreter and/or translator
  • have completed a NAATI-endorsed qualification, skillset training or other relevant training or qualifications
  • be based in Western Australia
  • be able to provide evidence of interpreting and/or translating work
  • consent to their information being shared with NAATI for assessment purposes.

Applicants must also meet the requirements of one of the following pathways:

Certification Renewal Pathway

For individuals who:

  • previously held NAATI certification that has expired
or

  • were accredited under the pre-2018 NAATI accreditation system.

Sponsorship Pathway

For individuals who:

  • have never been NAATI certified
and

Please note that final eligibility is subject to NAATI assessment and approval. Preference may be given to applicants employed by a NAATI Endorsed Language Service Provider.
