Empowering Western Australians from culturally and linguistically diverse (CaLD) backgrounds to engage with Australia's democratic system is the focus of an educational program launched as part of WA Harmony Week 2026.
The Civics and Citizenship Recognition and Community Education Program 2026 - 2031 is delivered by Auspire - Australia Day Council WA and supported by the WA Government through the Office of Multicultural Interests.
Co-designed with the Office of Multicultural Interests and CaLD communities in Western Australia, the comprehensive program includes a 'Australia's Democracy and You' segment.
To be delivered in partnership with the Constitutional Centre of Western Australia and the Western Australian Electoral Commission, this component will unpack how democracy works and encourage active civic participation.
It will cover key aspects such as the Australian Constitution, government systems, elections, and voting, with the aim of encouraging people to be active citizens.
Auspire - Australia Day Council WA's state and national programs, which showcase the achievements of outstanding citizens will also be highlighted.
