New program to boost the voice that help connect WA

  • Partnership between the Office of Multicultural Interests and the National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters (NAATI) boosts opportunities for interpreters and translators
  • Program to provide NAATI certification or renewal at no cost to eligible interpreters and translators
  • Initiative ensures that Western Australians have equitable access to information and services

Expressions of interest are now open for the WA Interpreter and Translator Booster Program, administrated by the Office of Multicultural Interests (OMI), in partnership with the National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters (NAATI).

This new program aims to provide eligible interpreters and translators the opportunity to receive NAATI certification or renewal at no cost to ensure that practitioners achieve and maintain professional certification.

This opportunity helps practitioners continue to provide important language services to clients across Western Australia and aims to boost the number of interpreters and translators working professionally.

Interpreters and translators play a vital role in ensuring that Western Australians of all backgrounds and abilities have equitable access to services and information. Language services also ensure that people understand their rights and responsibilities and are treated fairly in legal processes.

Support is available for NAATI credentials including Recognised Practising Interpreter, Recognised Practising Translator, Certified Provisional Interpreter, Certified Interpreter and Certified Translator.

Western Australia-based eligible interpreters and translators can submit their expressions of interest to take part in the program by Friday 30 October 2026.
